Michael, they’ve shot them

This documentary tells the untold story of how Ireland’s 1916 Easter rising, a pivotal rebellion in the formation of modern Ireland, impacted 17,000km away on the other side of the world.

A Catholic force, that impacted in Australia up until the 1970’s, was forged at this time, in these embers of Ireland’s 1916 rising and this documentary, Michael, they’ve shot them, tells this powerful story through interviews with leading academics and biographers and footage from the turn of the century with archival interviews with Archbishop of Melbourne Daniel Mannix.

The documentary was partially supported by the Irish Government and the University of Melbourne and was recently shown at the State Library Victoria as part of a 1916 ‘The Irish Rising- A terrible beauty is born’ partnership between the Library and the University of Melbourne.
